While at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), she collaborated with the development of a “Discharge Preparation Tool” as a member of the Patient Advocacy Subgroup of Corporate Nursing Clinical Practice Committee of TOH. The Discharge Preparation Tool was featured at York University’s 2010 Nursing Research Day. In January of 2011, Deanne joined the Brockville General Hospital team as Manager of 1East Med/Surg unit. She immediately assisted with the successful implementation of Enhanced Activation on 1 East. In June of that year, Deanne also participated with changing the BGH nursing model from Primary Approach to Patient Care to a Collaborative Approach to Care, which brought Personal Support Workers into the clinical team. In January 2010 GSS introduced Slow Stream Rehab (which eventually became Restorative Care). Vaughnette, along with her peers at Garden Street, underwent a complete change in how patient care was provided. They began having patients ‘do for themselves’ what would have traditionally been ‘done for them’. The following year, she assisted with the implementation of Enhanced Activation in acute care at the BGH Charles Street Site (CSS). In June 2011, the 1East Unit at CSS began implementing the model change from Primary to Collaborative Care. Vaughnette worked closely with the RN Clinical Educator to develop orientation for new Personal Support Workers in acute care, and collaborated with the creation of the “PSW Skills List” that is provided to new PSWs being oriented to Acute Care at CSS. Since then, Vaughnette has assisted with orientation for PSWs at Charles Street. Vaughnette brings to her work strong people skills from over 25 years in hospitality, prior to her career at BGH.
